Chris
Lathrop - In spite of the poor economy and few sales
during the past year, we keep on painting! During the winter I
was fortunate to spend time in Florida where I painted the Spanish
moss draped on Live Oak trees that I love. It was wonderful to
be able to paint en plein air without suffering from the cold.
Flowers, nature and buildings are still some of my favorite subjects.
Its fun to work in acrylic or pastels occasionally but watercolor
is still my medium of choice. Rural scenes of my home area of
Northeastern PA dominate my work, supplemented with works depicting
other areas of the US as I travel.
On
Monday during Open House Weekend I will demonstrate color mixing
and application on a summer landscape. While everything seems
to be green in a summer scene, its important to vary the
colors, temperatures and values to add interest to the work. Come
and observe and be inspired! We hope that new artists will be
born as a result of the weekend.
My
work is on display at the Country Store, County Office Building,
PennStar Bank, Stables Restaurant, Endless Mountains Health Systems
hospital and rehab center, all in Montrose, as well as Pure Pennsylvania
in Great Bend and Susquehanna Health Center in Susquehanna.
