Janis
Schimsky of JDS Designs Unique Handmade Jewelry Combining Vintage
Beads and Buttons
After retiring from Nassau Community College as the Director
of the Center for Students with Disabilities, Janis Schimsky discovered that she
had a passion for designing jewelry. Continuously on a quest to find the most
interesting vintage beads, buttons and findings, each of Janis' creations is a
unique work of art. As
she combines vintage and contemporary beads and buttons, she designs one-of-a-kind
bracelets, necklaces and earrings. Janis also specializes in "repositioning",
the art of redesigning outdated jewelry into new and contemporary pieces. If the
jewelry you inherited from your Aunt Bessie is still sitting in the vault, bring
it to Janis' studio during the Artist's Tour and she will redesign it with your
style in mind. These pieces make great holiday gifts for the women in your family.
