Maureen
Van Nostrand - Visit Maureens home to see her
serene oil paintings on canvases that range from small to large
sizes. She has such a large body of work of so many different
subjects that there is sure to be something for everyone.
Maureen is an oil painter who has
been painting part-time for 6 years, and this year was finally
able to make the leap into becoming a full time artist. Her dream
of pursuing an art career is finally being realized. Although
she was always interested in art, she pursued a bachelors
degree in business instead to be more practical. She said having
a knowledge of the business aspects of an art career certainly
helps, but she should have known what a strong underlying passion
she had for art as she sketched her professors portraits
in all of her classes in her notes. After she left the work force
after her second child was born, Maureen studied painting techniques
at Coleys Studio of Fine Art before she decided to launch
her art career. Being able to paint full time has truly been a
blessing for her because she ironically finds it exciting and
yet relaxing at the same time. She truly looks forward to making
a scene jump to life on the canvas, whether its a still
life, a landscape, people or animals. She finds it a truly rewarding
experience.
Maureens
paintings are on display during the year at The Pure Pennsylvania
Gallery and Store in Hallstead. Being an active member of the
Hill Country Artists in Montrose has allowed her the opportunity
to display locally at the Endless Mountains Health Systems Hospital,
Pennstar Bank, the Courthouse Annex, the Rehab Center, and the
Montrose House Inn and Restaurant. For half of this year, she
will have some work up at Congressman Chris Carneys Office
in Clarks Summitt.
Her studio is located 1.3 miles out on Route 167 South from Route
706 East in Montrose. She can be contacted at (570)-278-4590,
or at movanno@epix.net. She will be demonstrating oil painting
on Monday on the tour. Maureen looks forward to seeing you!
