“In every walk with nature, one receives
far more than he seeks.” John Muir
Sonji continues to explore and expand her encaustic mixed media art. Early morning walks
remain a crucial part of her artistic process. It is in nature that her inspiration and passion to
create are formed. She capitalizes on her wanderings to gather unique, beautiful, and special
items that she incorporates into her encaustic works. She collects flowers, plant life, wood,
bones, old fence wire, rusted metal, snake sheds, and stones - basically anything that catches
her eye as part of the incredible natural environment that she happily calls home.
As a retired college professor, Sonji embraces the practice of learning and continues to attend
as many encaustic workshops as possible throughout the year. She recently began learning the
crafts of handmade paper making and weaving, incorporating both into her encaustic collages.
