George Manns

George’s many years of woodworking have resulted in a wide range of projects– all original designs, all of them functional, all made from native hardwoods.

Some, like the music stand, incorporate naturally shaped sumac tree components.

Some were commissioned pieces like the circulation desk and the donor tree located in the library in Montrose. The circulation desk, built in partnership with Ben Manns, turned out to be the perfect showcase for the curly cherry lumber George had milled and dried and squirreled away waiting for a suitable project.

Some projects were a response to a themed woodworking contest sponsored by the Wharton Esherick Museum. The cutting board was accepted in the 2006 competition and took first place.

Wine racks made from a combination of woods, in many sizes and shapes, fill the shop.  All the racks feature an original design to keep bottles snugly in the rack even when moving it around.
