Jayne Stoll & Barbara Merritt
Jayne Stoll and Barbara Merritt are the 2018 – 2019 Artists in Residence at Salt Springs State Park.
Jayne has been sewing since she was a child. For twenty five years she taught high school Family and Consumer Science in New Jersey. After retiring, Jayne and Tom moved to Friendsville, PA to be closer to their family in upstate NY. Jayne is the Program Chairperson for Common Threads Quilters Guild and was co-chair of their quilt show this spring. Jayne teaches classes at Salt Springs Park, and organizes their annual Celebration with Quilts in the Barn. Jayne is an instructor for Montrose Adult Education. Quilts cover the walls of the Stoll home. Jayne loves bright colors, experiments with new techniques and creates one of a kind fiber art. She thinks of her work as a modern twist on traditional quilting.
After 32 years working as a Systems Engineer and Technical Director in the defense industry, Barbara retired to Laurel Lake in Brackney with her husband, Mike, and has been pursuing her love of quilting and the arts for the past 10 years. Initially a traditional quilter, she has enjoyed stretching her skills and expanding her quilting art to include collage quilting, hand quilting, and original quilt design, as well as rescuing vintage and antique quilts and sewing machines to bring them new life. She loves to explore color theory and teaches classes regularly through the Montrose area Adult School and other quilt guilds, shops and galleries.
She is currently serving her fifth term as Co-President of the Common Threads Quilters Guild in Vestal, NY, and has been the coordinator of the quilt judging and co-chair forthe guild’s bi-annual quilt show for the past 6 years
